Q: How do i install MERLIN?

A: Follow steps listed below.
1. download MERLIN installer using the link above.
2. unzip and place the content into a permanent folder.
3. click [setup.exe] to install the MERLIN installer.
4. click on MERLIN desktop icon to start the installer.
5. choose MERLIN download according to your language preference.
6. click [Find] button to locate the downloaded MERLIN product (usually in the downloads folder)
7. specify the [Connect To] location using either server’s ip address or name.
8. enter Iseries UserID and Password (UserID must have QSECOFR equivalent special authorities)

If this is a MERLIN update install, be sure to check for MERLIN(QSAI) library locks before starting!

9. click on [Start] button.

The upload and installation duration will depend on client/Server FTP configuration and may take less than a minute or as much as 10 minutes.



Always use the latest MERLIN installer to avoid potential installation issues!










Q: How to create a shortcut to start MERLIN.
A: Create a desktop shortcut (right click on desktop, New, Shortcut)

For Location, enter [http://192.168.0.84:8182/index.shtml]
where [192.168.0.84] is replaced with either ip address or domain name of the server such as [http://myPowerServer1.myCompany.com:8182/index.shtml]



Then give it a name.



That’s it, all done!
You may optionally assign an icon a you prefer.
Now click on it and it should bring up MERLIN’s logon page.














Q: How do I know when new version of MERLIN becomes available?
A: MERLIN will automatically check for new version availability. When new version becomes available, a message will be sent to alert users.



To download the new version, use the [Updates] link on MERLIN desktop. The download usually takes less than 2 minutes.




Q: How do I install the MERLIN updates after it has been downloaded?
A: To install the new version, follow the same procedure as the MERLIN install steps described above.

Be sure to check for MERLIN(QSAI) library locks before starting the update install!

Q: My OS messages are not showing up on MERLIN
A: That may be due to multiple logons.
The first device used to signon will have a lock on the user profile message queue.
MERLIN may not be able to access your messages because of such a lock. Try logging off all devices then logon to MERLIN first then other locations.







Q: What is an MIT License agreement?
A: The MIT License is a permissive free software license originating at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). A: We provide free permanent authorization keys, but we do ask that you review and accept the MIT License agreement.
if you agree to the MIT License terms, use the [AppKey Request] function under the Goliath On-Line, SysOp tab to request a permanent authorization key. This function will display the information we need to register your CPU under the MIT Licence agreement and generate a permanent authorization key. Take a snapshot of the screen and email it to us [jp@HexAche.com]. The [AppKey Registration] function is used to enter the permanent authorization key.






Q: Can I use it without a permanent authorization key?
A: Yes, but the software will require re-install every 365 days if MIT License is term is not agreed.
